BBSWiki:How to create a page

From BBSWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Creating a page in UMassWiki is easy! Just make a link to the nonexistent page in a relevant page.

For example, let's say you're reading List of DOC BBSes and you want to add an article about Heinous. Click the "edit" tab at the top of List of DOC BBSes and find where you want to put the link to Heinous in the text box.

Once you've found the spot, simply make a link like this: [[Heinous BBS]]. The double brackets around a word or phrase creates a wikilink. Then, save the page and click on your new link. You'll automatically be taken to the Heinous BBS edit page.

[edit] How to create a page if there is no relevant parent

Ideally, all new pages should be linked to by some other page, otherwise they are orphaned. Since BBSWiki is new, there might not be a relevant page on which to create your link. In that case, you should create the relevant page first if possible.

If you don't have time or this is too confusing, you can create a link to the page you want to create in the Sandbox and then go ahead and create your page. This is not ideal, but eventually somebody will come along and find your orphaned page in the list of orphaned pages and link it up.

[edit] Guidelines for page naming

Article titles in BBSWiki are (partially) case-sensitive. That means that capitalization usually matters.

Most page titles follow the rule that the first letter of the first word is capitalized, and the rest of the words are not: for example, List of DOC BBSes. However, names of BBSes themselves and other officially named entities are capitalized the way you would expect: e.g., "Heinous BBS" and not "Heinous bbs." Same with the names of people and categories.
